My artwork consists of a combination of materials and techniques. I sculpt, paint, print and draw. I originally began my artwork through my passion for sculpture; I now enjoy the process of painting to enhance my ideas for sculpture.
When I begin an artwork I do not visualise the outcome. The majority of my paintings begin with unconscious mark making until I see a development of imagery within my marks that I can work into.
There are a lot of creatures that reoccur in my work and they tell me a story about myself or my thoughts in each artwork. Not always, but some of these creatures are sculpted into clay. I am developing a process wherein I do not use excessive material to reproduce my clay works, but actually use the original product by preserving it in certain materials. I think the essence of the creature can be lost if manipulated into different materials.
I enjoy drawing from life and think it is essential to keep my skills up. I love to observe the human being and nature, to sit and pause, and to see things in more depth than previously imagined.
